Charlottesville is the best college town in the country, according to a national magazine.

In naming Charlottesville the best college town to live in, Southern Living cited the “rolling vineyards, the Blue Ridge Mountains, the red brick Downtown Mall ... it’s easy to see why so many students graduate from the University of Virginia and stay put.”

According to a news release from the city, the magazine rated towns based on their local scene with good, affordable restaurants, shops and support of the arts.

Other cities included in this year’s list were Chapel Hill, N.C., Athens, Ga., Knoxville, Tenn., Bryan, Texas, and Auburn, Ala.
